Bibliotheca is pleased to announce that it will be working with Newport News Public Library System (NNPLS) in Virginia after being appointed to undertake a three-year installation project, fully equipping the System's libraries with RFID technology and Automated Materials Handling (AMH) solutions.

The Newport News Public Library System, which includes four community public libraries and a Public Law Library, has commissioned the installation to improve the efficiency of staff, increase the level of customer service offered within its branches and automate the inventory process for each of its libraries.

The three-year roll out will begin with the initial tagging of the libraries' stock using Bibliotheca's smartlabe range, followed by the installation of RFID equipment in the second year and the implementation of AMH solutions in the third year. The RFID equipment to be installed across the Newport News Public Library System includes 7 smartserve 400 kiosks, 9 smartserve 200 counter top kiosks, 28 smartstation 200 desktop solutions and 7 sets of smartgate 400 security gates.

In terms of AMH solutions, Bibliotheca's new AMH range combines self-service check-in with automated sorting, providing a faster return process and an improved customer service for all library patrons. The AMH products to be deployed in the Newport News Public Library System includes the smartreturn 400 and the smartsort 400 system, which has the capacity to sort 2,400 items per hour.

The Newport News Public Library System is dedicated to serving the community of Newport News and hosts visits to over 700,000 patrons annually. Commenting on the decision to install RFID and select Bibliotheca to undertake the work, Carol Goodwin, Support Services Manager at NNPLS said: "We especially like Bibliotheca as we feel that it is a dynamic company - constantly developing new and improved equipment and processes with the focus on the Library and its patrons. We also like how it is looking for other ways to use RFID technology, and not just limited to the circulation and report side of library processes. Additionally, the response time we received to any questions or additional information has been extremely prompt and very thorough."

Don Chadwick, Middle Atlantic Region Account Manager at Bibliotheca, also commented: "There really is a unique synergy that exists between Newport News Public Library and Bibliotheca. Newport News is a patron-centric forward thinking library that wants to remain firmly entrenched as a go-to place in their community. With the advent of Bibliotheca's advanced technical innovations and user-friendly patron interfaces NNPLS will remain a focal point in their community for years to come."
