New RFID Conference Management & Security System |
|
|
[04/27/11]
The need was simple enough: visibility and access control in a conference facility. The Kazakhstani Government approached a leading Almaty IT Security firm, ANS-KZ, to collaborate with a group of expert engineers to solve security concerns involving international conferences held in the country's political capital, Astana.
With numerous applications developed from the ground up, Academia RFID's vendor-neutral RFID TESTeam offered a solution design methodology that answered ANS-KZ's specific needs and presented opportunities to customize an application to their exiting security processes.
"It started with an e-mail listing system requirements and progressed to a sophisticated security interface that offered conference floor visibility and break-out session access control with real-time (and discreet) alerts of security breaches", said Anthony Palermo, Director of the Academia RFID Centre of Excellence in Montreal.
The RFID system was designed with RFID Portals at key read-points; handheld devices for members of the security team and conference participants' badges that included an RFID tag whose unique identifier would reference a secured database to identify the participant and their access status. The RFID interface (including screens at each read-point, on the handhelds and at a main security desk) could alert if a participant had breached certain doorways without permission as well as show a complete overview of the conference and its participants in near real-time.
"We're pleased with the opportunity to work collaboratively with the RFID TESTeam at Academia RFID. It was a perfect way of developing a solution that answered our customer's needs as opposed to being sold a solution that would have to be retrofitted and might not of worked for our specific application", added Sergey Krivonos, ANS-KZ's North American Director of Business Development.
After a few weeks of testing in the Academia RFID Lab, the system was fully deployed in September 2010 by the ANS-KZ Team in Astana.
