Acsis, Inc., a leader in track and trace solutions for supply chain safety, security and efficiency, announced that its customer International Game Technology (IGT) has been selected as a winner of the Managing Automation "2009 Progressive Manufacturing 100 Awards." IGT was selected as a winner for its capabilities in managing 10 production lines and thousands of varieties of slot machines efficiently and effectively.

IGT is a global company specializing in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution and sales of computerized gaming machines and systems products. The company is using an Acsis' manufacturing traceability solution, utilizing the eXtended platform for Device and Data Integration (xDDI), along with bar-code and RFID technology for automation and integration of shop floor devices, data and processes.

Acsis' xDDI is a fully integrated and automated business process automation and data collection platform that orchestrates activities at the execution level of manufacturing and distribution operations. xDDI also integrates with SAP solutions and links business execution tasks and data to the SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (SAP MII) application and the SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure offering.

Before IGT set out to integrate its shop floor and enterprise systems, the company moved production order details, including bill of materials, routing and scheduling information, from its backbone SAP solution-based system to its manufacturing shop floor manually, via paper based documents. This process was tedious, time consuming and prone to errors. Since installing SAP MII and Acsis' xDDI, IGT now has a completely automated and paperless system and no longer suffers from poor visibility or efficiency.

"The level of visibility and efficiency we were able to achieve has significantly optimized our production lines and enterprise integration," said Richard Hardcastle, Business Process Implementation Manager for factory automation. "We now have the tools necessary to achieve and exceed development, manufacturing, and sales goals."

Through the integration, the following IGT benefits were achieved:

  • Elimination of paper based processes

  • Significant cost savings and key sustainability accomplishment

  • Greater management control through performance data collection

  • Defect analysis and tracking

  • Reduced training and errors through use of online digitized assembly drawings

"In the face of one of the worst economic downturns in history, IGT and Acsis dramatically underscore how the manufacturing industry will not only get through this period but emerge in an even stronger position once a recovery takes hold," said David R. Brousell, editor-in-chief of Managing Automation Media. "That is why we selected them for this honor."

"We are thrilled that our customer, IGT, has been recognized for its accomplishments," said Andre Pino, vice president and chief marketing officer of Acsis, Inc. "Working with IGT's manufacturing organization was rewarding, and the company's collaborative effort was central to helping them attain their goals. Being recognized as a winner by such a prestigious organization is a testament to our manufacturing solutions as well as IGT's forward thinking."

The global Progressive Manufacturing Awards Program, now in its fifth year, continues to grow and recognize best-in-class manufacturers from the US and abroad. This year, Managing Automation will recognize 100 outstanding manufacturers based on the scope of mastery, business integration, and use of technology demonstrated by each nominee. PM100 Winners will be honored and presented with their awards at the Progressive Manufacturing Awards Gala to be held on the last day of the Progressive Manufacturing Summit 2009: Redefining the Business of Manufacturing in Turbulent Economic Times, June 9-11, at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Florida.
