Northern Apex Corporation has been chosen by S2C Global Systems to incorporate RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) into the first ever, automated 5-gallon bottled water merchandising system - the S2C AquaDuct. With bottled water industry sales approaching $10 billion a year and approximately 70 million plastic water bottles going into North American landfills a day, it is time for the purchasing of bottled water and returning of empty bottles be made quick, convenient, cost effective and most of all environmentally friendly.

The S2C AquaDuct system is a state-of-the-art vending machine, designed to deliver pre-packaged 5-gallon bottles of water from the supplier to the consumer, therefore eliminating the storage and labor costs associated with the current distribution process. The bottles are fitted with RFID tags that allow for automated returns and bottle deposit refunds. The custom designed RFID antenna, reader, and tag solution makes the bottle return system accurate, user friendly, and completely automated. Customers can drive up to the outdoor machines and easily purchase bottled water by using their credit card, debit card, or pre-paid AquaCard.

The development of the S2C AquaDuct system comes after a recent trend among Canadian bottled water manufacturers towards using disposable (one-time use only) 5-gallon bottles. "Our AquaDuct machine will not only provide North American consumers with the convenience they are used to, but most importantly it will aide in recycling the use of bottles by approximately 30%, consequently saving space in landfills," said Rob Bartlett - CEO of S2C Global Systems. "The S2C AquaDuct also puts the profit back into the distribution of 5-gallon bottled water by reducing distribution costs by as much as 75%."

The S2C AquaDuct machines are expected to be a big hit in many areas of the US and Canada. The first machines are in place now and the response has been very positive. "I believe that S2C Global has developed the right product at the right time. All of us at Northern Apex are pleased to be a part of the manufacturing process," said Michael Gigli - General Manager of Northern Apex Corporation.
