The Twin Lakes Public Library, a two-library system serving the residents of central Georgia, has successfully deployed Checkpoint Systems' RFID-based Intelligent Library System.
The Checkpoint RFID system has been an instant success with dramatically improving collection security. Twin Lakes' previous electronic security system was catching just 33% of the books "walking" out the doors of the libraries; the Checkpoint system is now catching 99% of those "walkaway" books.
"When we were researching various RFID vendors, I was struck by how many Checkpoint customers I talked to who kept saying the same things - they were very pleased with how easy the Checkpoint team was to work with, they were impressed with the reliability of Checkpoint's technology, and the bottom line was that they were all thrilled with the results they had seen in terms of improved loss prevention," said Lillie Crowe, director of the Twin Lakes Public Library System.
According to Ms. Crowe, once her purchase decision was made, the Checkpoint technology team worked closely with the library staff members in order to ensure that the new RFID system was quickly deployed and effectively incorporated into the library's workflow.
"We've been very pleased with how seamlessly the ILS has been integrated into our operations," said Ms. Crowe. "And the proof of how valuable this investment has been for us is quantified by comparing our loss-prevention rates to where they were before we converted to RFID. Rather than one out of three 'walkaway' books being detected, our Checkpoint system now detects 99 out of 100 books that are improperly removed from the library."
The administrators of the Twin Lakes Public Library System have been so pleased with Checkpoint's RFID system that they have subsequently purchased additional Checkpoint products for libraries. Twin Lakes is now a user of the CheckPASS system - Checkpoint's library resource management solution - and has seen excellent initial results from this system as well. Ms. Crowe deployed CheckPASS to automate time-consuming and labor-intensive tasks such as patron sign-ups for computer time, monitoring of patron usage sessions, and cost recovery for printing and copying.
"As with all of Checkpoint's technology offerings for libraries, these products free up my library staff members from mundane tasks in order to concentrate on doing what they do best: working with individual patrons to help them find the information they need," said Ms. Crowe.
